Reading strategy

 

 

When encountering an unfamiliar vocabulary word, try the following

 

 

Read the sentences preceding the unfamiliar vocabulary word, read the sentence, inside of which the unfamiliar word in being used, and read the sentence following the unfamiliar word.

 

 

 Look for context clues to help you understand the meaning of the word

 

 

 Look for examples, appositives, punctuation, the conjunction "or," clauses, referents, "be" verb, and contrast statement as clues to help you understand the unfamiliar word.
